Firefox for Android
Sunday, 6 September 2020 10:02 pmThe new Firefox for Android (version 80) has made me want to switch browsers.
Removing the "back" button was annoying. Version 80.1.2 has returned it. Thanks.
There is a new bookmark system. The old one was complicated but I had got used to it.
I rarely like changes to Graphical Users Interfaces, I'll lump it.
But what really gets my goat (and that of many other people) is they have removed "about:config" - a simple way for people who like command-lines to tweak the browser. I've forgotten how many tweaks I've made, but one is to allow me through the TalkTalk "KidSafe" web blocker, which blocks all the Mozilla sites (so I can't check and make Firefox bug reports :-) and a couple of others I use a lot from the computer in my pocket (aka my phone). I've just had a run in about whether a feature request and a regression can be the same thing and I would like to take Firefox off my phone.
I read a lot of fiction, AO3 etc., with the web browser on my phone. I'd use the Kindle PaperWhite that is kicking around, but the "Experimental Browser" isn't very good either, so I rarely carry it around with me. What web browsers are people using on their phones (Android especially, but the cracked screen has begun to die, so I could be persuaded to switch back to an iPhone) ?
