Expensive tastes
Tuesday, 16 January 2007 06:19 amI'm going to a funeral on Monday (my 98 year old grandfather's) and a wedding two weeks later, so I was prompted to try on my suit. I've grown a good bit (sideways) in the eleven years since I bought it and it is clearly time to replace it.
I looked in three shops - having discounted the ones that clearly sold cheap suits.
The first two were having sales but I couldn't find anything which fitted well and was good enough that I'd want to wear it to the wedding instead of my jacket and trousers, so that left the third shop which wasn't having a sale and which was more expensive to start with. By this time it was evening so although I found some suits I thought I liked I wasn't committing anything when I couldn't see it in daylight. So I went back in day light and have now bought one. Scary thing is that it cost ten times as much as the one it replaced. When did I come to care that much how I look ?
