Rats,
I've friended a new colleague who is a serious photographer. So his journal is full of decent quality, and therefore hi-res, pictures which are wider than I like to keep my friends page. This means that at a sensible font size the text doesn't wrap at a sensible 70-80 characters or so, but at about 130 characters, which isn't anything like as readable.
The LJ Banner needs a window 765 pixels wide which gives me a very readable page when there are no wide pictures, but an 800 pixel image gives my friends page a horizontal scroll bar if the windows is less than 998 pixels wide.

Firefox will shrink many pictures to fit in the window, but Live Journal pages seem to defeat that feature.
Can anyone think of a technical solution (I'm using Firefox on Linux if it matters) or do I have to chose between a friend and a friends page that is comfortable to read ?

Go here (http://www.livejournal.com/manage/settings/) and turn on image placeholders for large images?

(Or buy a 21" monitor from Computer Resale. :-) )
